Pointe technique is an extension of classical ballet technique, performed while wearing structurally reinforced pointe shoes, enabling the dancer to support all body weight on fully stretched feet. In order to dance on pointe, a dancer must have had time to achieve the proper form, strength, and alignment needed to make a successful transition into pointe work. A dancer should never work in pointe shoes until their teacher has told them they are ready to do so; pre-pointe class is taken in ballet slippers until the dancer has developed the strength and muscles necessary to go en pointe. Pointe class follows the regular ballet class ensuring that the entire body, especially the feet and ankles, are properly warmed up. To maintain proper technique and flexibility we require pointe dancers to take at least 3 ballet classes per week.

Pre-Point

In addition to ballet technique classes this pre-pointe class will develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe. Pre-pointe classes stress correct alignment and proper ballet technique. During the year the teacher will determine when each student in ready to go en pointe.
