Winniepique_nBallet Summer Intensive

Our program is designed for students who love dance and want to immerse themselves in ballet as well as various components of modern.

Classes include:

Ballet, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, Repertoire, Active-core stretch/strengthening, Lyrical, and Contemporary (including international choreography), focusing on proper placement, technique and an understanding of dance as an art form and means of self-expression.

LauraJansonGuest Faculty:  Laura Janson (Ballet, Pointe, Stretch/Flexibility)

Laura Janson is a soloist with Continental Ballet Company based out of Bloomington Minnesota.  She has danced for Saint Paul City Ballet, Metropolitan Ballet, Kats D., and is currently Co-Director of Cities Classical Dance Ensemble, a collaborative contemporary ballet company that provides professional dancers and choreographers an opportunity to create new works. Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of Minnesota.  While in college, she was awarded an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Grant for choreography in conjunction with an internship with Shapiro and Smith Dance Company.  The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council also presented her with a grant for the production of L’Affaire de Ballet by Cities Classical Dance Ensemble.  Laura’s work of original choreography, I Find No Peace, was performed in CCDE’s debut performance and was reviewed as, “simply, one of the most beautiful pieces of choreography I have ever seen – it deserves a long and celebrated life.”* – Ross Edwards. Laura teaches ballet and modern at multiple dance institutions and is also a certified yoga Instructor.

Susanna Daly has trained with some of the most respected teachers in the world, at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle as well as American Music and Dramatic Academy in NYC. She has been teaching dance for the past eight years and is founder of the Women’s Dance Collective, a new dance company based in NYC. Her performing credits include New Moves – Seattle, O.K. Dance Company 2012, Broadway Dance Center AIM Company.

LaraTantGuest Faculty:  Lara Tant (Ballet, Pointe, Variations)

Lara Tant was born in Philadelphia, PA where she began dancing at the YMCA.  She trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC under the direction of Ludmila Markovina and Alla Sizova.  Additionally she supplemented her training through summer programs at American Ballet Theatre, where she had the opportunity to be coached by Leslie Brown and Rebecca Wright.  Finally she completed her professional training in the Trainee Program at the Joffrey Ballet School.  Lara began her professional career at the Ballet Theatre of Maryland in 2003, where she also embarked upon her career as a ballet teacher.  In 2005 she joined Connecticut Ballet in Stamford, CT.

In 2007 Lara co-founded Exit 12 Dance Company with Roman Baca and Lisa Fitzgerald.  In addition to dancing with Exit 12 Lara performs with many companies and choreographers in New York City including Rebecca Kelly Ballet, David Fernandez, Alison Cook-Beatty Dance Company, Mooney-Cooley Dance, Lou Troisi, and as a guest artist with Ballet Theatre Company in West Hartford, CT.  Lara has performed many classical and contemporary works and has taught ballet and creative movement at Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Ballet Des Enfants, Armonk Dance, Brooklyn Ballet and Steps on Broadway.  She is currently teaching at ATB in Glendale, NY and a full time faculty member at the Joffrey Ballet School in Manhattan where she teaches in the Children’s, Youth Ballet and Adult Programs.  Lara is presently completing her Performing Arts Degree through the College of Saint Mary’s in the LEAP program.

 

Aaron Thao (Ballet, Contemporary Ballet)Aaron

Aaron Thao is originally from Minneapolis, MN and graduated from Brown University with a ScB in Human Biology. He discovered a love for ballet while studying at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and left to pursue a career in exploring the human body through the art of dance. Coming from a background in medicine, Aaron incorporates an education of human anatomy and function in his classes, particularly for developing young students, to ensure safe training, proper strength conditioning, and to minimize risk for injury. He believes a foundation in how the body works is critical to understanding what the body the can accomplish with movement and musicality.
Aaron has danced with Ballet for Young Audiences, Continental Ballet Company, Exit 12 Dance Company and has freelanced for various dance companies throughout NYC. He trained with teachers at Minnesota Dance Theater, TU Dance, Steps on Broadway, and Ballet Academy East and was recently featured in the July 2014 issue of Minnesota Medicine.

Lisa Fitzgerald, a New England native, graduated from the post-graduate professional program at The Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts. Ms. Fitzgerald has danced professionally for  Ballet Ambassadors,  Ballet des Amériques, Connecticut Ballet, Mooney/Cooley Dance, and co-founded Exit12 Dance Company where she serves in artistic and administrative roles. Ms. Fitzgerald has taught and performed full-length ballets with Ballet Ambassadors, enriching the lives of youngsters in and around NYC; and was a part of Caitlin Trainor’s Artificial IntelliDance at Tedx, a global conference showcasing “ideas worth sharing”.  She is currently pursuing her BA through LEAP Program from St. Mary’s College of CA
